What are Volume Based Tiers?
Volume Based Tiers allow you to create Campaigns for Affiliates based on different caps &/or thresholds for the purpose of paying different rates based on the volume of conversions. They are created on the Offer card and are managed at the Campaign level.
Use Case of Volume Based Tiers
You would like to pay your affiliate a higher CPA as they run more traffic to your offer.
Volume Based Tiers now allows you to easily manage varying payout rates at defined conversion tiers.
You can now accomplish the following example:
0-100 conversions: $10 CPA
101-500 conversions: $12 CPA
501+ conversions: $14 CPA
How to set up Volume Based Tiers: Offer Card
Step 1: Add Offer Contracts
In order to set up Volume Based Tiers in CAKE, Offer Contracts will need to be created on the Offer level. For more information on how to create Offer Contracts, please click here. Since Volume Based Tiers (VBT) leverages the concept of internal redirects and caps/thresholds, Offer Contracts allow you to create the tier strategy for an Offer.
Once Offer Contracts have been added, click on the "Configure Volume Based Tiers" button located next to the "Add" and "Export" buttons on the Contracts tab.
Step 2: Configure Volume Based Tiers
There are two drop downs that require a selection to be made in order to complete the VBT configuration.
- Cap Type: Click or Conversion
- Cap Interval: None, Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Custom
- None: Sets the Cap Interval to indefinite
- Daily: Sets the Cap Interval to daily
- Weekly: Sets the Cap Interval to weekly
- Monthly: Sets the Cap Interval to monthly
- Custom: Allows a unique date range to be defined
Once the Cap Type and Cap Interval have been selected, click on the "Add" button. In the next step you will be prompted to enter &/or select an Offer Contract from the first drop down and enter a Default Cap. This step needs to be repeated for however many tiers you would like to set up.
After the Offer Contract and Default Cap have been selected/entered, click the "Save" button. Once you save the selection, CAKE will automatically populate the Range (which is based on the Default Cap that was added), Price Format, Price Received and Payout.
The Price Format, Price Received , Payout, Default and Hidden fields can only be edited on the Offer Contract level - updates to these fields cannot be made from the "Configure Volume Based Tiers" wizard.
The order of the tiers is essential to the Volume Based Tiers strategy because it sets the order that Campaigns will use to redirect to the next tier based on the tier strategy. In the example above, the Default tier points to the Silver tier, the Silver tier points to the Gold tier.
You can add tiers in any order. Once all tiers have been added, to reorder the tiers, click on the three bar lines to the left of the Offer Contract name and move the line item to the new tier position. When reordering tiers, the Range column will update the count to reflect the position of the tier.
Step 3: Managing Volume Based Tiers on the Campaign level
On the Campaign card, click on the "Manage Volume Based Tiers" button (located under the Campaign ID box).
On the Campaign level, this is where you will map an already created Campaign to a tier or select the option to create a new Campaign to map the appropriate tier. If you do not want a tier to be "active" on the Campaign, then simply select "Unmapped" in the drop down for that tier's line item.
Once all of the tiers have a mapped option selected, click on the "Save" button.
A confirmation message will appear with additional information including the option to "Copy Pixel" over to the newly created Campaigns that were created based on tiers.
- If you would like the default Campaign pixel that is placed to be used for all tier enabled Campaigns, please enable the check box and click "Yes".
- If you do not want to use the default Campaign pixel for all tier enabled Campaigns, please do not enable the check box. You can update the pixel for each Campaign on the pixel tab each tier enabled Campaign separately.
Removing Volume Based Tiers
Volume Based Tiers can be removed from the tier strategy on the Offer Contract level.
Steps for removing Volume Based Tiers:
- Open up the Offer card
- Click on the Offer Contracts tab
- Click on the "Configure Payout Tiers button"
- Click on the red icon that is located to the right of the tier
Once you attempt to delete a tier, a pop up will appear with the following message:
"Are you sure you want to permanently remove this volume based tier? Once it's removed all newly created Campaigns will use the order below. Existing tier enabled campaigns will not be affected by this change."
Removing the tier at the Offer level will NOT impact any Campaigns that are tier enabled. If you have tier enabled Campaigns for the removed tier, you will need to make changes &/or updates on the Campaign level. Once the tier has been removed, you can click on the "Cancel" button or "X" to close the modal. The "Save" button will only save order and cap changes/updates.
Unmapping Volume Based Tiers within a Campaign
At some point in the lifetime of your affiliate's campaign, you may want to unmap one of their campaigns to a volume based tier.
This can easily be accomplished by managing the tiers at the campaign level.
To do this, click on the Manage Volume Based Tiers button within one of the campaigns.
From there, double click the line item referencing the offer contract and campaign and select "Unmap" from the drop down.
Resetting A Campaign To The Default Tiers
At any point, you can reset an affiliate's campaign to reflect the default tiers from the offer.
To do this, simply unmap all of the tiers on the campaign and then remap to the appropriate offer contracts.
