Best Practices

Once you are successfully posting leads into CAKE, it is best practice to setup your Buyer's posting document and send them a test lead. This is a crucial step in the setup process and should be done prior to having live traffic flow through the system. it will enable you to verify the lead fields, buyer responses, and authentication methods are mapped correctly.

As a general best practice, be sure to follow any Buyer testing requirements specified in their posting document. In some cases, this will include a unique testing URL or an identifier passed on the lead. For example, in a CAKE to CAKE scenario, passing ckmtest as the first name, last name or address of the lead will cause the lead to be marked as a test in the system.

How to Send a Test Post

To send a test post, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Buyer Contract Card
  2. Navigate to the Delivery Method tab
  3. Click on the Send Test Post button
  4. Enter an existing Lead ID and click Next
  5. Review the request and click Finish

Note: The Lead ID you choose must be under the same Vertical as the Buyer Contract you are testing.

Note: You can override existing data through the fields listed under Ping Session ID. For Example, setting the First Name: Jim would override the lead's original first name of John.

Step 3 of 3 allows you to validate the post url and request string before sending the lead to the Buyer's system.

After clicking Finish, the response received from the Buyer's system will be displayed as Response Text. This same response can also be located by navigating the Consumer History section on the lead card that was tested.

Note: Matched Buyer Lead ID, Matched Buyer Redirect URL and Matched Buyer Price are not part of the Buyer's response. Rather, this is CAKE's indication of any regular expression matches within the response text. The value of "No Match" indicates there was nothing captured or that the token mapping is incorrect. See here for more details on setting up Buyer Contract Response Tokens.

How to Send a Test Post: Option 2

For an alternative way to send a test post, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Action Menu
  2. Navigate to Lead Gen section and select Manually Send Lead
  3. Select the Buyer Contract from the drop down and click Next
  4. Enter an existing Lead ID and click Next
  5. Review the request and click Finish

How to Send a Test Ping

To send a test ping, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Buyer Contract Card
  2. Navigate to the Ping Delivery Method tab
  3. Click on the Send Test Ping button
  4. Enter an existing Lead ID and click Next
  5. Review the request and click Finish

Note: you are not able override existing data when sending a test ping. If you need to manipulate the data, you can do so directly on the lead card.

Note, if the buyer requires OAuth, you will need to capture their session id parameter returned in the ping response and paste it into the Ping Session ID field on Send Test Post. See here for more details on Post to OAuth 2.0 Buyer CRMs

How to Send a Test Lead Email

To send a test lead email, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Buyer Contract Card
  2. Navigate to the Delivery Method tab

  4. Enter your own email address
  5. Enter an existing Lead ID and click Next
  6. Click Finish
  7. Check your inbox

Note: it is expected that the Request section on Step 3 of 3 will be blank since the lead will be delivered via email.

The Response Text will say "Email" to indicate that the lead email was sent to your mail server for delivery.
